The Top Twenty Showcase honors the most successful Chesapeake Bay Retrievers competing in AKC conformation events across the United States. Each year, we recognize the Top Twenty in three competitive rankings based on performance during the previous calendar year (also known as the Qualifying Year (QY)).
A Top Twenty qualifier is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever that has ranked in the top twenty in at least one of the three official qualification categories during the qualifying period. These dogs have demonstrated consistent success against strong competition while exemplifying the breed’s type, structure, movement, and overall quality.
The Showcase celebrates not only the dogs themselves, but also the breeders, owners, and handlers whose dedication contributes to their success in the conformation ring.
Three Paths to Qualification
Recognizes Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that have defeated the highest number of breed entries in AKC breed competition. Reflects sustained success within the breed throughout the year under a variety of judges.
Recognizes dogs that have earned the highest AKC All-Breed point totals through Sporting Group placements and Best in Show awards. These dogs have distinguished themselves against all seven AKC groups.
Honors dogs that have accumulated the highest NOHS points. With more than 80% of conformation dogs shown by their owners, this category celebrates the owner-handler partnership.
In QY 2025, many dogs earned placements in multiple categories during the same qualifying year, demonstrating remarkable consistency and versatility.
The Top Twenty Showcase is more than a rankings program. It is a celebration of the dogs whose achievements help preserve, promote, and strengthen the legacy of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever in the conformation ring. We invite exhibitors, breeders, owners, handlers, and breed enthusiasts to join us.
